Open Data: From Reference to Advocacy

Governments and other organizations around the world are publishing open data, a type of data that anyone can use, modify and share for any purpose. This course will provide an introduction to the theory and practice of open data, and students will become familiar with how to find, use, visualize and improve the open data around them. This class will also discuss use cases and opportunities for libraries to take a leadership role in local efforts.

Public libraries are increasingly involved with local open data.
