iSchool Graduation Checklist

Note: In order to file for Candidacy, students must have 9 units of graded classes on the transcript, be in good academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or higher), and have no outstanding Incompletes. View unofficial transcript.

iSchool Graduation Checklist
Complete Candidacy Approval and Graduation Application Steps
Candidacy Approval Form File your Candidacy Approval Form in the iSchool Advising and Administration site in Canvas. From the Canvas menu, choose: Courses > All Courses > iSchool Advising and Administration. Contact iSchool Student Services with problems. Follow the tutorial pages for either MLIS, MARA or MS Informatics programs. For a planned May graduation, submit to Canvas by September 24. For a planned August graduation, submit to Canvas by December 1. For a planned December graduation, submit to Canvas by March 25. Contact iSchool Student Services if you have missed a deadline, for advising about your situation. Candidacy forms can take 4-5 weeks to be approved by GAPE. You will see an indicator in your MySJSU Other Indicators when it has been approved.
Graduation Application About two weeks after your Candidacy form is approved by SJSU GAPE, you should be prompted through your MySJSU account to complete the Graduation Application step online. (MS in Informatics Students: Read the special notice). Due date for May graduation: February 1. Due date for August graduation: March 1. Due date for December graduation: September 1.

Complete Degree Requirements and Apply for Graduating Student Awards
Culminating Experience Enroll in and complete your program's culminating experience: INFO 289, INFO 299, MARA 289, or INFM 211.
Course Substitution Review your copy of your approved Candidacy Plan. File a Course Substitution form if you have changed any course titles from your approved plan. If you need to change your planned graduation term, you must complete a Change of Graduation Date request online to be able to enroll in the upcoming term.
Digital Assets Certificate (Optional) MLIS/MARA students completing the Digital Assets Certificate: Follow the steps to submit an Advanced Certificate Audit Form. A grade of CR in 289 must be viewable on your unofficial transcript before filing this form with iSchool.
Graduating Student Awards Graduates from Fall, Spring and Summer are invited to apply for Awards for Excellence for Graduating Students. Applications are open from February 1st - March 15th for the Ken Haycock Award for Exceptional Professional Promise and from March 1st - March 30th for all other awards for graduating students.

Review Choices and Opt-In for Graduation Celebrations
iSchool Graduate Video Each graduate may provide content for a slide in the graduate video that culminates our Virtual Convocation Ceremony. Graduating students must submit a profile by May 1, 2024.
iSchool Graduate Website Each graduate can create a profile for the iSchool Graduate Website. It is a special online graduation platform that celebrates our graduates and includes messages from our speakers, graduate profiles, graduating student award winners, and a degree presentation. Graduating students must create a profile by July 31, 2024.
Virtual Graduation Celebration iSchool's synchronous, Virtual Graduation Celebration will celebrate the graduating class with invited speakers and the graduating student speaker. Student names will not be read, but the graduate video will be played at the end of the celebration. Graduates will be sent instructions on how to access the online event automatically.
SJSU Onsite Graduation SJSU's Onsite Graduation hosted by SJSU Commencement. Mark any intent to participate due dates in your calendar.

Note: The graduation processing timeline is: Spring: late June - late July. Fall: late January - end of February. Summer: Mid-September - late October. Your diploma will be sent to the diploma address that SJSU has on record. You may view or change your diploma address on My SJSU up until your graduation date. Please keep your diploma address current since the post office will not forward diplomas to your new address. Watch your MySJSU account for an indicator from the GAPE office, or check your MySJSUS Unofficial transcript to look for the posting of your degree.

You will have one year to access your MySJSUOne and Canvas account after you graduate. Please be sure to manage your passwords, as MySJSU passwords expire every 180 days. Any Google docs associated with your SJSU email account will also disappear after one year unless you have saved/moved them over to another account.
