iSchool Internships

Our school's MLIS and MARA graduate students and Post-Master's Certificate students are strongly encouraged to complete an internship (we offer on-site and virtual internship opportunities) to gain both valuable real-world experience and course credit. Internship supervisors collaborate with our faculty to provide rich, structured field learning experiences for our students in a variety of professional settings. As interns gain new skills, explore career options, and expand their professional connections, they also participate in a two-way exchange of knowledge with their internship site.

Students can browse or search for internship opportunities. Site supervisors can update or create new listings in the Internship Sites Database.

Students can view the most recent internship opportunities on the Recently Updated Listings page.

MLIS and Post-Master's Certificate students: Please go to the INFO 294 Student Handbook.

MARA students: Please go to the MARA 294 Student Handbook.

Employers: Please go to the Internship Site Supervisor Handbook.

If you have general internship questions, contact Dr. Mary Ann Harlan, associate director.

Internship Stories e-Book

Whether you have work experience or not, completing an internship while studying at the iSchool is a wonderful way to build skills, expand your network, try new things, and boost your resume.

Internships are optional but highly encouraged. Students who have completed internships reap the benefits of this additional real-world experience. Even if time is an issue or you're already working in your desired career, an internship can open doors that you haven't yet imagined.

We invite you to read Opening Doors: Student Internship Stories.

Every internship was so unique and different. I have enjoyed all of them immensely and have learned so much about the uniqueness and expansiveness of the information profession. – Joy Kim, ’18 MLIS
